In this article, I would like to share with you something very useful that I have learnt many years ago. I believe it will not only be useful but will eventually cut down your learning curves.

It’s about theming your years! It’s about assigning your years with specific mission. In short, it’s about deciding what you want to achieve in a particular year and then you beam all your focuses towards accomplishing it.

Let’s go straight to the point as it is very hard to explain this without examples!

There was a year that I decided to achieve Excellence! So, I themed that year as a year of Excellence!

EXCELLENCE = EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS

Having said that, I searched many terms about Excellence and the best one says “Exceeding Expectations”! Wow~! That’s exactly what I wanted, short but meaningful, with substances and contains great motivations!

From that moment onwards, whenever I received new tasks from anyone, I will always try to find out their expectations. I tried to dig out what exactly they wanted from me by assigning me those tasks. With that, I then tried my best to find ways to exceed their expectations.

By doing this, my attitudes towards completing the tasks totally changed. I began to see the bigger picture of why the tasks need to be completed. In many occasions, I didn’t follow instructions blindly but rather I developed methodologies that produced better results than expected. That sense of accomplishment brought higher motivations to do even better.

That year itself, I achieved many unexpected results in return. I received unexpected bonuses again and again from my boss. I gained lots and lots of trusts and confidences from the people around me. Everything was great except one thing, I didn’t achieve quite a number of goals that I’ve set earlier. How come? It was simply because I spent too much time in finding out the expectations and ways to exceed it.

The year after that, I was a bit smarter. I told myself that there must be ways on how I can achieve greater results with reasonable amount of efforts and time. Hence, I came out with another theme called …

THE 3 E’s : EXCELLENCE, EFFICIENT, EFFECTIVE

Needless to say, with this theme, I covered everything. Not only to get things done excellently but it must be done within reasonable time frame, with resources fully utilized in the most efficient and effective ways.

In order to achieve that, I have to learn quite a number of new skills which eventually caused me to have greater ability to solve problems fast and accurate.

Well, the above are just some of the themes that I had adopted for the past years. You might want to try it yourselves as well. Analyze your Goals and Visions for the upcoming year and see what theme will suit the best for it. Then, all you need to do is list out the ways on how to achieve it.

Remember, there is no shortcuts for Real Success! We need to work it out!

Just a couple of reminders; make sure that your plans and strategies are carried out with the right sets of morals, etiquettes and great integrity. There are always a price to pay for every achievements! Pay accordingly and pay promptly!

Perhaps you want to theme your upcoming year as “Breakthrough”! Start by listing down all the areas of your life that you want to breakthrough and then start to device plans and strategies that will lead towards it. You’ll then see yourselves being in a whole new level.
